Tapton Youth Brass Band, Lucerne, Switzerland, 1998

Previous Next

This was the band's first concert tour, to the lakeside resort of Lucerne in Switzerland. Whilst we were there we took a steam train to the top of Mount Rigi, and visited an alphorn maker's in Kriens where the band stunned the owner with their triple tonguing! We also rode on the steep rack railway to the top of Mount Pilatus, from where there were amazing views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains. We visited the Glacier Gardens in Lucerne, where we had fun in the mirror maze and saw the dying lion carved into the rock. We had three lakeside concerts, an evening concert in Lucerne, an afternoon concert in Vitznau, and an afternoon concert in Weggis for which we arrived by boat from Lucerne. The evenings were spent relaxing at the hostel, where Mrs Phillips taught the band to play the saw, and Ivan the coach driver hosted discos!
